I’m sorry, tell me again how he has no character development cuz I couldn’t hear you over the sound of Kaiba totally saving his friends lives
Not canon…
This is the Japanese Anime.. .
… if that is not canon then I give up. What in the hell are we calling it then?
How in the world is that not canon
I guess some fans don’t accept that the anime is a canon of its own. Just because something happens there and not the manga doesn’t automatically mean that it’s not canon. It’s not canon for the manga, true, but we’re not talking about that in this instance.
I have nothing against people who prefer the manga, that’s fine. But I really wish they would stop saying that things that happen in the show aren’t canon to the show. They happened. You don’t have to like that they happened, but that doesn’t change the fact that they did.
The worst part is, the “not canon” poster is even more wrong about Kaiba’s development. When Kaiba first appears in the manga, he’s introduced as a vile, sadistic shit who sees everyone around him as resources, including his little brother, and he stays that way for an entire arc. By his last appearance at the end of Battle City, he’ll do anything to protect his brother, he’s accepted that Yugi is a better Duelist, he respects his cards and recognizes the power of bonds, and he seems to have finally put his past behind him and views his Death-T days with regret.
The anime didn’t add any character development - if anything, it arrested his development to a degree by skipping over Death-T. But even then, he clearly evolves from a smug, spoiled prick to a grudgingly respectful comrade.
I think what people are missing about that post about Kaiba having no development is that it was a) a joke and b) not complaining, because Kaiba being a smug, spoiled prick is pretty entertaining.
